Objective:
Key Characteristics – Managing Process Variations
September 9th, 7-8:45 a.m.
Bellevue College - North Campus
To review how Variation Management is used to control Key Characteristics and discuss how an organization can adopt an effective process for managing products with Key Characteristics.
Agenda:
  • Introductions
  1. Review AS9103 Variation Management of Key Characteristics
  2. If you are responsible for managing a key characteristic, does AS9100 require you to use AS9103?
  3. The focus of AS9103 is on production and variation control of Key Characteristics. Can it also be an effective tool to use for controlling other characteristics, such as those that affect cost and delivery?
  4. What are the four areas of control mandated by the standard?
If a part is already being manufactured with appropriate controls for key characteristics, how can AS9103 be used to improve on the current process?
  5. What is the difference between a Key Characteristic for a part, subassembly or system, and one for a process?
  6. What other variation control method besides SPC can be used to control a key characteristic? What is needed to demonstrate that alternative controls are acceptable?
  7. When it is impossible or prohibitively expensive to meet the stability and capability requirements specified in the standard, are there alternatives that can be used to manage variations?
  8. What are the stages for the preferred model for Key Characteristic Variation Management?
  9. What is the requirement for Process Control Documentation and how is it used? Is it necessary to flowchart the process?
